Ensenada is the gateway to seven magnificent wine valleys, where more than 75% of Mexico’s wine is produced. Surrounding them are outstanding properties where visitors can savor and enjoy the very best of Baja California’s gastronomy.

With this in mind—and to help you start planning your next trip to this region of the country and experience the best of the “Capital of Mexican Wine” and its local cuisine—we present four Michelin-starred restaurants that should not be missing from your agenda:

1. Olivea Farm to Table

This charming restaurant, located inside Casa Olivea hotel, offers a delicious eight-course tasting menu that changes every five to six weeks. The experience, which includes a tour of the property’s private garden, can last up to three hours—but without a doubt, they will be the most exquisite three hours of your trip.

Must-try dishes: Beet mole or kampachi crudo.

2. Lunario

Housed in a structure reminiscent of a greenhouse on the grounds of Casa Lomita, this restaurant opens only seasonally. Here, chef Sheyla Alvarado has created two multi-course tasting menus made with local ingredients, where sweet flavors effortlessly dialogue with spicy notes, all paired with a fine selection of wines 100% from the region.

Must-try dishes: Baja oyster duo, blue corn sope, and chamomile flan.

3. Animalón

Owned by chef Javier Plascencia and led by chef Óscar Torres, this restaurant—set beneath a massive oak tree—offers a culinary experience carefully designed to delight diners’ senses. Its dishes pay homage to Mexican cuisine with a contemporary vision that brings together recipes and ingredients from across the country.

Must-try dishes: Beer-braised beef barbacoa or kampachi ceviche.

4. Conchas de Piedra

Specializing in seafood, this rustic-chic concept is the result of a collaboration between the restaurant Deckman’s and Casa de Piedra, one of the many wineries in the Valle de Guadalupe. The menu focuses on seafood, particularly shellfish, including aguachiles, ceviches, and original hot dishes such as roasted abalone.

Must-try dishes: Clam ceviche or oyster tacos.
