Day of the Dead is one of the traditions that best reflects Mexico’s relationship with memory and life. In San Miguel de Allende, the celebration unfolds through altars, marigold flowers, artistic expressions, and flavors passed down from one generation to the next. This year, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende joins the festivities with a program of experiences that brings together gastronomy, art, mixology, and wellness.

The program runs throughout October and into the first days of November, offering a variety of experiences for guests and visitors interested in exploring Mexican traditions from different perspectives.

Gastronomy is one of the main highlights of the celebration. Throughout October, Artesana Boutique offers artisanal pan de muerto, the traditional Day of the Dead bread, in its classic version as well as varieties featuring special fillings. Until October 31, the hotel will also host an interactive culinary experience where participants can sample chicken mole, customize their own pan de muerto, and decorate sugar and chocolate skulls before finishing with a cup of hot chocolate.

Art is also part of the program. On October 30, Patio Casona will host Donde Viven los Recuerdos (Where Memories Live), an exhibition by artist Tanya Talamante that explores memory and its continuity across generations, inspired by the spirit of San Miguel de Allende. That same evening, 1826 Tequila Bar will present a new edition of its Speakeasy Sessions, featuring a collaboration between Casa Dragones and Quince, themed cocktails, and live music.

For those seeking a more introspective approach to the festivities, Sense, A Rosewood Spa, will offer two experiences inspired by the symbolism of Day of the Dead on October 31. The Cempasúchil Ceremony will combine meditation, ritual cacao, and sound healing. In the afternoon, Viaje Místico Entre Dos Mundos (Mystical Journey Between Two Worlds) will invite participants to explore their ancestral roots and the meanings behind them.

On November 2, the celebration will take to the table with two distinct dining experiences. Pirules Garden Kitchen will present a special three-course dinner created by Chef Odin Rocha, featuring dishes such as pork shank birria tamales, chicken with black mole, and a creative interpretation of pan de muerto served with ranch cheese foam and orange.

Meanwhile, Rosewood Garden will host the Grand Day of the Dead Celebration, featuring stations serving Mexican specialties, Oaxacan tlayudas, enchiladas mineras, pozole, tamales, tacos, and a selection of regional moles. Different versions of pan de muerto, churros, buñuelos, hot chocolate, and traditional Mexican café de olla will round out the offering. The evening will also feature a DJ and a costume contest celebrating catrines and catrinas, the elegantly dressed skeletal figures that have become iconic symbols of the holiday.

The hotel’s participation extends beyond its grounds and into the streets of San Miguel de Allende, where it joins community activities associated with the Catrinas Parade, one of the colorful expressions that bring the city to life during this time of year.
