When you arrive in Mexico City, you quickly realize that the experience goes far beyond its streets and flavors; here, art can be felt on every corner. In 2026, the city opens its doors to exhibitions that are true treasures waiting to be discovered. Whether you come from afar or from somewhere else in Mexico, these events are designed to surprise and connect you with stories that are lived and felt.

Imagine walking through the José María Velasco Gallery in Peralvillo and finding yourself surrounded by those Mexican signs that are more than advertisements—they are fragments of history that paint the urban memory. Over 100 pieces, full of color and messages, invite you to read the streets from a different perspective, one where tradition and popular art mingle in a vibrant dialogue you won’t want to miss.

If fashion moves you, the Franz Mayer Museum awaits with ¡Moda hoy! Contemporary Latin American and Latinx Design. Here, design becomes a celebration of creativity that transcends borders and genres. From the streets of the Historic Center, these iconic pieces, created in collaboration with the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, transport you to the runway of innovation. It’s the perfect exhibition to start the year with inspiration and style.

A short journey to Coyoacán takes you to the National Museum of Popular Cultures, where folk art comes to life in the 2025 Grand National Folk Art Competition. Here, the hands of artisans from across Mexico have created pieces that are living testimonies of ancestral techniques and materials that speak of identity. From wooden toys to burnished clay vases, each work tells a story that resonates with the cultural richness of the country.

In the heart of the Historic Center, the Palacio de Cultura Citibanamex – Palacio de Iturbide offers an intimate space to discover Graciela Iturbide through Fijar el tiempo. The exhibition features 69 photographs selected by the artist herself, inviting visitors into her unique and profound gaze that has captured Mexico and the world for over fifty years. It’s a rare opportunity to connect with the essence of Mexican photographic art.

And in January, the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes pays tribute to Geles Cabrera, a pioneer of Mexican sculpture. Partituras corporales is a dialogue between body, material, and space, a work that paved the way for women in art and continues to resonate today. Visiting this exhibition is to immerse yourself in the sensitivity and rhythm that only art can offer.

Finally, the Museo Jumex presents a fascinating encounter with Football and Art. That same emotion, just in time for the 2026 World Cup. Here, football becomes a language, a culture, and a community, exploring its many dimensions from playful energy to social critique. More than an exhibition, it is an experience that explains why this sport inspires so much passion.

These exhibitions are more than cultural events; they are open doors to history, identity, and creativity that make Mexico City an unmissable destination. Every step in these museums is a journey that transforms and invites you to return again and again.
