Historic haciendas, cenotes, cities shaped by Maya and colonial heritage, gastronomy, and natural landscapes allow Yucatán to turn a wedding into a journey that begins before the ceremony and continues long after.
That combination will take center stage through October 22, as Mérida welcomes Love Mexico 2026 for the first time, a destination wedding event organized by the International Association of Destination Wedding Professionals (IADWP). More than 300 professionals from North America, Latin America, and Europe—including wedding planners, travel advisors, and specialized suppliers—will gather in the city to experience firsthand what the destination has to offer.
The event also reflects a shift in the way destination weddings are being envisioned. For many couples, choosing where to get married also means deciding what kind of experience they want to share with their guests.
A Wedding That Extends Across Yucatán
A celebration can begin at a historic hacienda and continue the following day with a visit to a cenote, lunch in Mérida, or a trip to an archaeological site. It can also become a culinary journey, a seaside stay, or an opportunity for family and friends to discover the Yucatán Peninsula for the first time.
The possibility of combining a celebration with travel is part of what makes Yucatán appealing for destination weddings. According to IADWP figures shared by the Government of Yucatán, a destination wedding brings together an average of 48 guests, represents spending of approximately $38,000, and generates an average stay of four nights. Each celebration can account for around 103 hotel room nights and support a range of activities related to hospitality, gastronomy, photography, music, fashion, and tourism experiences.
For the Mérida edition, Love Mexico introduces the All Experience concept, focused on couples looking for more personalized celebrations connected to the destination they have chosen.
Mérida as a Starting Point
The Yucatán capital brings together many of the elements needed to create this kind of itinerary. Its architecture, hotels, restaurants, historic homes, and event venues are complemented by a cultural offering that extends beyond the city into other parts of the state.
From Mérida, guests can discover haciendas, cenotes, archaeological sites, and Pueblos Mágicos, while also experiencing the cuisine and traditions that distinguish Yucatán.
During Love Mexico Mérida 2026, participants will have the opportunity to explore this diversity through professional activities and destination experiences. The program also includes pre- and post-tours for those looking to extend their journey through Mexico.
Beyond meetings and business appointments, the event highlights an idea that is gaining momentum in destination weddings: a wedding can be the beginning of a shared journey. In Yucatán, that journey might unfold at a historic hacienda, around a table of Yucatecan cuisine, beside a cenote, or in a city like Mérida.
