Mexico City has established itself as one of the key destinations for cocktail lovers. In its most renowned bars, mixology goes beyond the preparation of drinks: it is an art form that combines technique, creativity and cultural memory. These are our favorites:

TLECÁN

Is 20th on the list. It has a minimalist style and concentrates its offer mainly on drinks made from agave. Its decoration inspired by pre-Hispanic roots, immediately provokes the palate to try its mezcals, although there are also bacanora, sotol, pox and raicilla. One of their must-try is the Paloma Blanca, made with grapefruit juice, lime, mezcal and volcanic salt.

BALTRA

It has the 83rd place and it is a small space very well conditioned where the bar is the epicenter of the place. This bar is like being in your living room, unpretentious and informal. What matters is to enjoy the drink. They have an established menu, but they have seasonal specials like their version of the sazerac cocktail with mezcal. There are also snacks to pair with vegetarian options.

RAYO

It’s 87th on the list. Inspired by the legend of the goddess Mayahuel, who is said to have taken the form of an agave plant, this bar is a tribute to distillates, as it uses a wide variety of them to make its cocktails. They offer a menu of dishes to share. The must-try is their Soldado Medina cocktail, made with tequila, chile-infused liqueur, green herb liqueur, absinthe and lime.

HANKY PANKY

This cocktail bar, created by Walter Meyenberg, pays homage to the iconic 1930’s cocktail at the Savoy Hotel in London, created by Ada Coleman, the only female head bartender at the venue. This exclusive speakeasy offers cocktails by renowned bartenders and special evenings by its residents. On October 3, the 50 best bars in the world will be revealed.

BAR LAS BRUJAS

Led by an all-female team, this bar takes its name from the Casa de las Brujas, where it is located. Its mystical and subdued atmosphere houses a cocktail bar inspired by ancestral knowledge and Mexican botanicals. The constantly evolving menu pays homage to Latin American female figures and uses unusual ingredients made in their own workshop. Among his creations is the Naja, with squash blossoms, vermouth and corn liqueur
